Pegasus is one of the largest foot wear manufacturers in China. It was first established in Taiwan back in 1956 as a plastic shoe manufacturer. Then in the 1960’s and 1970’s its rapid growth expanded through domestic sales in Taiwan and international trade. Due to change in the market environment Pegasus relocated its entire production facilities from Taiwan to China in 1990 where their performance was very promising.

In 1996 Pegasus was publicly listed in Hong Kong. With over 20 years marketing and management experience, Pegasus then developed a domestic market in China by licencing international well-known brands and selling their own product line. Their product line produced foot wear for Sport and leisure, athletic footwear, sports sandals, leisure shoes, sandals, leather boots, bowling shoes and gold shoes.

I had found that the study guide for week 1, Accounting, Learning & Online Communication was a brief summary of the required task ahead of me.

I understand that I will need to gain my own personal perspective of what accounting is as my peers thoughts, opinions and experiences will be different from my own.

For me to develop my own personal experience and knowledge about accounting I must come out of my comfort zone as interaction in this unit is crucial.

Interaction with my peers will consider me to be a team player as we can all have an input on how we will achieve our goals and objectives in passing this unit.

What I did find interesting is how the CEO’s play a dominate role in business economics and that accounting is the heart of a businesses structure.

I also found reality to be a keyword throughout the study guide. Underlying accounting is a way of viewing business.

Having a better insight into the accounting equation, Assets, Liabilities, Expenses, Revenue And equity accounts has given me the capacity to develop my own understanding of Journals and ledgers and how the double entry method affects at least two different accounts.

My eagerness to learn accounting is an adrenaline for me at present as failure will not over take me, if my determination to succeed is strong enough.

We must foresee the future to consult the past. We are wrong about the future if we are wrong about the past. What an astonishing quote from Niccolo Machiavelli and G.K. Chesterton.

I was really expired by this concept, as this is where my alarm bells began to ring. Yes capital markets trade by Predications and expectations. I must consult the past to be able to foresee the future. Which is just common sense really?

At first I was like I have no idea what I’m doing, but after reading this study guide, all the little pieces of the puzzle started to fit in.

Then this Halo of light like the ring surrounding the moon, “ I was like oh I get it now” to analyse financial statements I must engage with a firms economic and business realities. How what, when and why sums it all up.

I was surprised to learn of how firms create and destroy value as my initial thought was just to sell products and make a profit but this wasn’t the case at all. I have learned a powerful way of viewing business, this knowledge well now stay imbedded with me as I develop further throughout this unit.

The most valuable and important thing that I have learned up until now is to clearly separate the operating and financial act ivies of a firm.

If I understand this then restating my financial reports will be a breeze for me.
